Stress relief at TCU just got a whole lot cuter.
On April 15, students gathered for Goats and Notes, an event designed to help students unwind before diving into exam week. theCrew and Impact of Words, two student-led organizations, teamed up to bring a unique dose of calm to campus with the help of some friendly goats.
As goat yoga and animal-assisted therapy have grown in popularity across campuses nationwide, TCU’s version added its own creative spin. In the campus commons, students had the chance to pet goats, participate in goat yoga, write affirmations, color and decorate cookies.
“I think animals are calming and relaxing and gives you a chance to just kind of sit down and relax. They are fun to watch, and brings back a child-like spirit,” said Rachel Smith with Down on the Farm Petting Zoo, who provided the goats.
While the goats were the main attraction, the event carried the deeper message of prioritizing mental health. This event was designed to encourage students to pause, breathe and show themselves some kindness during a hectic time of the year.
Goats and Notes is part of a growing effort at TCU to make mental wellness more approachable. By blending relaxation with creative expression and a few furry friends, the event reminded students that taking care of themselves doesn’t have to be complicated.
Sometimes, all it takes are some cookies, a coloring sheet and a goat to pet.
