Students in search of a pick-me-up have a new option.
There’s a new Starbucks on the first floor of the Brown-Lupton University Union featuring a full drink and food menu. It’s in the space formerly occupied by Union Grounds. The makeover includes an expanded seating area.
Unlike the Starbucks in the TCU Campus Store, this one accepts Dining Dollars. Students can even make advance orders on the Starbucks mobile app and pay using Dining Dollars.
For many of the students who stood in line for Monday’s grand opening, convenience was the primary appeal. Many said they live in the west campus dorms, and the BLUU location is more convenient.
“This Starbucks is closer to my classes and my dorm,” Victoria Perez, a sophomore psychology major, said. “It is a convenient place to study, get lunch or a beverage and connect with friends.”
Students said the revamped layout encourages impromptu gatherings and studying.

The warm and inviting ambiance and the overall design feel similar to a traditional Starbucks storefront. Kaitlin Pena, a senior child development and religion double major, said the new space stands out as an on-campus dining and social location.
“It looks authentic, and I am impressed,” Pena said. “I think TCU made a good decision with this space.”
Several students said the Dining Dollars option means they don’t have to use their cash for a caffeine boost.
Sophomore criminal justice major Taryn Campbell said she was a regular at the Campus Store Starbucks, which does not take Dining Dollars.
“It just makes more sense to spend the Dining Dollars on my meal plan at this Starbucks,” Campbell said.
Students can get their coffee fix on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
The cafe is part of a larger campus dining renovation plan that includes a total renovation of Market Square, which is set to close in December.
