After suffering their first loss of the season to Northwestern, the No. 4 TCU women’s soccer team responded impressively, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Texas A&M.
Both teams had a strong start to the game, with the Horned Frogs mostly in possession of the ball. After a few shots on goal, the Frogs found the back of the net, but the call would be reversed, leaving the score 0-0.
Shortly after, the Frogs drew a penalty kick when red-shirt freshman Emma Yolinsky was fouled in the box. However, Aggies goalkeeper Olivia Geller came up with a big save, keeping the Frogs off the board. Despite continued pressure and more attempts on goal from both sides, the game remained scoreless going into halftime.
Both the Frogs and the Aggies came into the second half ready to play. Within the first few minutes, senior Sydney Becerra found the back of the net to give the Frogs a 1-0 lead.
The 1-0 lead was short-lived after junior Leah Diaz got the equalizer, making it a tie game once again.
Both teams battled it out the rest of the half to try and get out ahead, but it was the Frogs who found the breakthrough in the 86th minute. Senior AJ Hennessey drilled a shot past Geller, sealing the Frogs’ victory.
The win marks TCU’s 5th of the season, making their record 5-1. TCU will be back at home this Friday as they face Gonzaga at 7:00 pm on ESPN+.
