Surfer died after shark attack
A surfer who has yet to be identified has died after a suspected great white shark attack at Long Reef Beach in Sydney, Australia, according to NBC News. The victim was pulled from the water by other surfers but lost too much blood and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the attack, several nearby beaches were closed. The death is the first fatal shark attack in Australia’s most populous city since February 2022.

Former Boston city councilor sentenced to prison over kickback scheme
A former Boston city councilor, Tania Fernandes Anderson, who was the first African immigrant and Muslim American to be elected to the council, has been sentenced to one month in prison, three years of supervised release and $13,000 in restitution, according to ABC News.
She pled guilty to one count of wire fraud and theft related to a program receiving federal funds in May.
Chrysler recalls Jeep hybrid SUVs due to potential loss of drive power
Chrysler is recalling 91,787 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid SUVs because of a software error that can cause the vehicle to crash without warning, according to ABC News. The recall applies to the 2022-26 models.
No accidents or injuries have been reported so far. A fix is being developed, and owners will be notified by Oct. 23.
