Parking closures ahead of Saturday’s game
TCU students living on campus must move their vehicles off campus by 9 p.m. Friday or risk towing and $225 fines ahead of Saturday’s football game against Abilene Christian University, according to TCU Parking and Transportation Services.
The closure affects lots two, three and four along with the top ramp and roof of Garage B in Worth Hills. These areas are the main parking spots for residential students, especially first-year students and sophomores.
Garage and lot schedules
Garage B’s top ramp and roof will close Thursday, Sept. 11, at noon. Vehicles left there after 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, will be towed.
Lots two, three and four will close Friday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m. Vehicles must be relocated by 9 p.m., when towing will begin.
Alternative parking options
Students may park for free at Southwest Baptist Seminary, located at 2001 W. Broadus St., about a 10-minute drive from campus. However, parking there is optional, and no other university lots will be available during the game.
Lots nine and 10 at the seminary open at 3 p.m. Friday, with the remaining lots opening at 6 p.m. All cars must be removed by 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, or they will be towed and fined $225.
Shuttle and security
The Leap shuttle service will run between Lot two on campus and the seminary. Shuttles operate Friday from 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students can track bus locations using the TripShot app or through the web.
Although TCU Police will not monitor the seminary lots, security will be provided by the seminary’s police force.
The City of Fort Worth enforces temporary “No Parking” zones on nearby streets during game days. Vehicles in these areas will be towed.
Students concerns
Some students said the changes are frustrating.
“I understand that the lack of parking on campus is the reason we have to move our cars, but the fact that we have to move our cars off campus is an unrealistic expectation,” said Grace Callahan, a community manager at Clark Hall and senior child development and psychology major. “This is our home, and we shouldn’t have to accommodate our home for football.”
