Some students in the College of Fine Arts will likely take classes off campus starting next fall as Ed Landreth Hall undergoes renovations.
Theatre TCU classes are usually taken in studio style classrooms and their availability is limited on campus. Erma Lowe Hall, home of the TCU Dance Department, has multiple large studios, but not enough to accommodate its programs and the theatre department for two years.

Instead, the department is considering off-campus locations, most likely in the cultural district, which is about three miles north of West Cantey Street on South University Drive, according to the College of Fine Arts. The exact location is not yet confirmed, but faculty say this could foster a great connection between the Fort Worth community and TCU.
Theatre TCU has been housed in Ed Landreth since it opened in 1948.
The changes have left some students concerned with how this could affect the workspaces they have had access to for their whole college experience.
“My only concerns lie in the potential inconveniences brought to design-focused theatre students during the intermediary period of the building renovations,” Katelyn Bush, a sophomore theatre major, said.
Bush said she is worried about rooms such as the workshop or design labs they have access to after hours to finish projects.

Students specifically in the class of ‘27 and ‘28 know the renovation will affect their final years at TCU.
John DeLuca, a junior musical theatre major, said the timing for this project would never be perfect. However, DeLuca said he is excited for the future students of Theatre TCU and the College of Fine Arts to have a brand new facility.
“I think if it gives students more opportunities to do co-productions with professional theatres in the area, that’s super exciting,” DeLuca said. “But it will definitely be an adjustment.”
The renovations will create a more effective space for students within the arts to learn and collaborate, according to TCU. This will include things such as a flying rail in the auditorium and more seating.
The renovations are expected to be finished during the 2028-29 school year.
