The Frogs finished their non-conference schedule 3-0 and look to remain undefeated as they open Big 12 play on Friday night against the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Josh Hoover and TCU find themselves ranked inside the AP Poll at #24 for the first time since 2023 after beating SMU in potentially the final Iron Skillet.
Hoover threw for 397 yards and five touchdowns against SMU and looks to continue the Frogs high-powered attack against Arizona State. Hoover is currently the nation’s top quarterback for passing yards and touchdowns per game. Hoover eclipsed 1,000 passing yards for the season against SMU.

Eric McAlister is looking to continue to dominate after he had a career day against SMU, catching eight receptions for three touchdowns and 254 receiving yards. McAlister was awarded Big 12 co-offensive player of the week for his efforts against SMU, as well as defensive back Jamel Johnson, who was awarded co-defensive player of the week. Johnson had six tackles and two interceptions.
TCU was without star running back Kevorian Barnes against SMU, and his availability has been announced as out for Friday’s game.
Arizona State is coming off a walk-off win over Baylor after kicker Jesus Gomez hit a game-winning 43-yard field goal to improve Arizona State to 3-1 and 1-0 in Big 12 play.
The Sun Devils are led by quarterback Sam Leavitt and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, who has five receiving touchdowns on the year. Arizona State’s one loss was to Mississippi State during week 2. The Sun Devils are the reigning Big 12 Champions and opened the season as the top team in ESPN’s Big 12 power rankings.
This is the third time the Frogs will play the Sun Devils. TCU is 0-2 all-time against Arizona State, with their last matchup taking in 1975. This will be TCU’s first time playing against Arizona State, with both teams being members of the Big 12.
Hoover and the Frogs will travel to Tempe, Arizona, to face the Sun Devils on Friday, Sept. 26, with kickoff at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on FOX.
