No. 24 TCU lost to Arizona State 24-27 in the Big 12 opener.
The Frogs started off the scoring with a 13-yard touchdown rush from Trent Battle, capping off a seven-play 51-yard drive.
TCU started the second quarter with good field position after Arizona State missed a 46-yard field goal. Josh Hoover would complete a 39-yard pass to DJ Rogers, converting a second and 28. The next play, Jeremy Payne would rush for a 7-yard touchdown, extending the TCU lead to 14-0.
An Arizona State turnover on downs would set up a field goal for TCU, making the lead 17.
Arizona State would follow up the turnover on downs with a 65-yard touchdown pass from Sam Leavitt to Jordyn Tyson. After a TCU three-and-out, Leavitt would score an eight-yard rushing touchdown, ending a five-play 47-yard touchdown drive.
Arizona State got the ball with 1:23 left in the first half. TCU forced Sam Leavitt to fumble at the TCU 25, giving the Frogs a 14-17 lead going into the second half.
Arizona State would attempt an onside kick coming out of the half, and TCU would recover. The Frogs then went 42 yards to the ASU three, but a slant that bounced off Jordan Dwyer’s number ended up as an interception.
Arizona State would turn the turnover into a field goal, tying the game at 17.
A 65-yard drive would end in a Josh Hoover quarterback sneak, giving TCU the lead at 24-17 going into the fourth quarter.
Arizona State had a 62-yard drive stall out and result in a turnover on downs at the TCU three-yard line.
A bad TCU punt led to great field position for the Sun Devils, but they could not capitalize on it, missing another field goal.
TCU was unable to do anything after the field goal and had to punt. Arizona State went on an 11-play touchdown drive with Leavitt and Tyson connecting for another touchdown pass.
Prince Deborah would strip sack Josh Hoover, leading to Arizona State taking its first lead, 24-27, with 1:17 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Horned Frogs would have no timeouts, needing to drive from their own 12 to get in field goal range to tie the game. After a nine-yard completion to DJ Rogers, Josh Hoover threw a game-ending interception.
TCU will look to bounce back next week in the Big 12 home opener against Colorado at 6:30 p.m. on FOX.
