Student Support Services is a program for TCU students who are first-generation, low-income or have a disability. This program reaches students to help them succeed on an every day basis and eventually get to graduation.
The SSS offers services to help students in multiple areas of college life including academics, career exploration and financial literacy, said Jowelle Mitchell, the Assistant Director of Student Support Services (SSS) Stem and Health Sciences.
Student Support Services is an undergraduate section of the TRIO Program. TCU’s TRIO programs serve to help the academic growth and development of students from high school through a PhD.
The program is fully funded by the U.S. Department of Education and TCU.
According to the SSS website, “Students who actively and fully participate and complete all program requirements will be eligible to apply for supplemental grant aid.”
Student Support Services has an office located in the Rickel Academic Wing, room 163. The office gives students a space for them to study, meet with friends or grab a snack in between classes.
There are also opportunities for students to earn leadership roles within SSS. According to the SSS website, they often hire their members as ambassadors and even offer opportunities to serve as tutors.

SSS tries to support its students in every way possible.
“We try to put on a variety of events to support students from note taking, talking to professors, even some fun workshops like how to write in cursive,” Cynthia Montes, the Director of SSS said.
SSS also hosts a program called Purple and Proud.
Purple and Proud meets weekly for four to six weeks. They learn new skillsets, do different activities and usually ends in a fun retreat.
“It’s a way for students who may be looking for connections in a different way, they may or may not have had an opportunity to do that,” Montes said. “Maybe some people are already very well connected and just want to bring it to a smaller setting.”
Students can apply to join the SSS through their website or grab an application while passing by their office
