Despite a slow offensive day, TCU found a way to get a 23-17 win in Morgantown.
The Horned Frogs got off to a fast start, leading 10-0 at the end of the first quarter, after forcing West Virginia to a turnover on downs and two three-and-outs.
Their dominance continued in the second quarter when quarterback Josh Hoover found Eric McAlister for a 4-yard touchdown to extend the Frogs’ lead to 17-7. TCU added a field goal before the half to give them a 20-7 lead.
TCU had a slow third quarter with two turnovers on downs. A West Virginia field goal narrowed the lead to 20-10 going into the fourth quarter.
TCU kicker Nat McCashland extended lead with a 41-yard field goal.
West Virginia responded with a touchdown in seven plays, only taking a minute and 33 secinds off the clock.
On third and six, Hoover found Eric McAlister for his ninth catch to seal the game for the Horned Frogs.
Hoover finished the game with 247 yards and one touchdown. McAlister accounted for 124 of the 247 passing yards and the only passing touchdown.
TCU also had a successful day on the ground with Trent Battle having 19 carries for 89 yards and one rushing touchdown.
With this win, TCU is bowl eligible for the ninth time since joining the Big 12. TCU is tied for seventh in the Big 12 with Kansas State.
The Horned Frogs have a bye next week, but will face Iowa State at home on Nov. 8.
