The TCU Horned Frogs are advancing to the second round in the NCAA tournament after delivering a dominant 7-0 victory over Grambling State on Friday Night at Garvey Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
Both teams came into the match with energy, but TCU controlled possession from the start. Just 10 minutes into the game, senior Seven Castain put the Frogs ahead with the first goal of the night. TCU built off of that momentum and in the 22nd minute, redshirt freshman Emma Yolinsky doubled the lead, finishing a pass from Castain to make it 2-0.
Grambling State struggled to get past TCU’s organized defense and did not put anything on target against Olivia Geller, keeping the score 2-0 going into half.
TCU continued to dominate in the second half, striking again quickly. In the 53rd minute, Yolinsky scored her second goal of the match, extending the Frogs’ lead to 3-0. From there, TCU’s offensive pressure intensified. Castain added her second goal of the night off an assist from senior AJ Hennessey, then completed a hat trick minutes later with an assist from sophomore Cameron Patton.
Patton added a goal of her own in the 78th minute, assisted by freshman Grace Vest, who later capped off the scoring with a successful penalty kick to secure the 7-0 finish.
The win marked TCU’s 16th of the season, making their record now 16-2-2. TCU will be back in the Garvey for the second round next week and will play the winner of the Memphis vs. Illinois game
