The holiday season is officially here, which means it is time to shop.
From Nov. 14-15, the TCU Alumni Association hosted its fourth annual Horned Frog Holiday Market event, which gave alumni, students and future Horned Frogs a chance to shop.
The two-day event took place in the Dee J. Kelly Alumni & Visitors Center.
There was a VIP “Sip & Shop” event on Nov. 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. catered toward individuals 21 and over. Tickets cost $40 and included a holiday tote bag, TCU holiday swag, a drink ticket, early access to shop and door prize drawings.
On Nov. 15, a “Shop ’til You Drop” event took place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets cost $15 and included a holiday tote bag and access to shop. TCU students received free entry through their student IDs.
Marissa Carrera, the coordinator of alumni programs, said the event’s purpose is engagement and philanthropy.
“We want to engage alumni, we want to engage students, the TCU community and friends of TCU,” Carrera said. “We want to showcase alumni-owned businesses, small and local businesses and also support the Greg Treviño Memorial Scholarship.”
Each ticket included a $5 donation to the Greg Treviño Memorial Scholarship, a higher education scholarship supported by the Hispanic Alumni Alliance (HAA).
This memorial scholarship was established in 2008 after Greg Treviño, a class of ’95 alum, founding member of the HAA and former TCU employee, died in a car accident, according to the HAA website. It is annually awarded to a TCU student who embodies Treviño’s core values of diversity and inclusion.

When choosing vendors, Carrera said she looks for the purple.
“I do look for alumni-owned businesses. Those do take priority over other businesses,” Carrera said. “I don’t want to duplicate, so I do make sure that I diversify merchandise.”
The event featured 49 vendors. From holiday decor and ceramic horned frogs to vintage TCU gear and jewelry, there was a wide variety of unique items.
“This two-day event has grown into a favorite holiday tradition because of our alumni base and our friends of TCU,” Carrera said. “Anytime we can support the TCU community as supporting H0rned Frogs, everybody wins.”
