For the first time in program history, TCU women’s soccer is heading to the final four after beating Vanderbilt 2-1.
This was the Frogs’ first road game of the tournament and the first matchup between the two schools since 1997.
The offense on both teams started strong with lots of shots in the first half, but TCU goalie Olivia Geller and Vanderbilt goalie Sara Wojdelko denied any shots from going in, keeping the score 0-0 heading into the half.
The match remained scoreless deep into the second half until the 76th minute, when Vanderbilt junior Sydney Watts scored off an assist from seniors Vivian Akyriem and Ally Bollig.
The lead was short-lived, as TCU found the equalizer nine minutes later, when freshman Emma Yolinsky capitalized on a free kick from senior Sydney Becerra that the Commodores failed to clear.
The score remained 1-1 for the rest of the half, sending the game into overtime. Five minutes in, TCU was awarded a penalty kick and Becerra took the shot and buried it in the left corner, securing the Frogs’ win.
The 2-1 win was the Frogs’ 19th win of the season, making their record 19-2-2.
TCU’s next match will be in Kansas City, where they will face Florida State on Friday, December 5th, on ESPN.
