TCU’s women’s soccer team played the Florida State Seminoles on Friday, December 5, in the College Cup semifinal, ending in a 1-0 loss for the Frogs.
The match took place in Kansas City and marked TCU’s first appearance in a College Cup. The teams’ last matchup was in August 2023, where the Seminoles took a 2-0 win.
Leading up to the semifinal, TCU advanced past Vanderbilt after Emma Yolinsky found an equalizer in the last five minutes, sending the game into overtime. Shortly after, the Frogs were awarded a penalty kick that Sydney Becerra buried in the left corner, keeping the Frogs’ season alive.
Late goals had been a theme for the Frogs throughout the season, as they scored eight goals in the final 10 minutes of matches prior to the College Cup.
When the game started, both the Frogs and the Seminoles brought the intensity. Florida State controlled much of the possession in the first half and created several chances in the box, but none made it past the hands of Olivia Geller. TCU also had a few opportunities, but neither team could capitalize, leaving the score 0-0 heading into halftime.
The second half mirrored the first, with chances to score from both sides. After 72 minutes, Florida State’s Wrianna Hudson found the back of the net off a cross from Peyton McGovern, giving them the lead.
TCU created several late chances but was not able to find an equalizer.
The Frogs’ season ended with an 18-3-2 record. Florida State will face Stanford on Monday, December 8, in the College Cup Championship at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN.
