TCU will play against the No.16 USC Trojans in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 30.
The Frogs have been left with a hole in their offense after starting quarterback Josh Hoover announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal and after offensive coordinator Kendal Briles left to take a position at South Carolina. Backup quarterback, Ken Seals, has been named the starter and has had the support of the team.
“As soon as I knew Ken was playing, I tried to get as many guys to play for him,” wide receiver Eric McAlister said.
TCU will be without wide receiver Jordan Dwyer who has been a big addition to the offense this year but will have defensive back Bud Clark returning after missing the past two games.
The Frogs will be without their new offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis for the Alamo Bowl. Head coach Sonny Dykes said that tight ends coach Mitch Kirsch will assume play-calling duties, and the entire offensive staff will be involved with game-planning.
The USC Trojans are heading into bowl season 9-3 and finished 7-2 in the Big Ten. This was the second year that USC competed in the Big10.
USC is led by quarterback Jaden Mavia and head coach Lincoln Riley. Mavia threw for over 3,400 yards and 23 touchdowns. Mavia will be without his top receiver in Makai Lemon who won the Biletnikoff Award which recognizes the top receiver in college football. Lemon opted out of the bowl game to prepare for the NFL draft.
TCU is 3-2 all-time against USC with the last game being played in the 1998 Sun Bowl where TCU won 28-19. This will be the third time TCU has been featured in the Alamo Bowl, and the Frogs have a 2-0 record. This will be Dykes’ first appearance in the Alamo Bowl.
The Frogs will travel to San Antonio, Texas, to face off against the Trojans in the Alamodome on Tuesday, Dec. 30, with kickoff at 8:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN. Tickets can be purchased on the Valero Alamo Bowl’s website.
