Five hundred red signs cover Sadler Lawn, however, Red Flags are all around.Red Flags are things people can be looking for, like insults or criticisms that could lead to a violent relationship, said Rebecca Farrow, vice president of community service for Safe Haven, a local women's shelter.

The Red Flag campaign, which is part of the statewide Texas Council on Family Violence project, consists of flags, posters and emergency cards that will be passed out around Tarrant County, Farrow said.

Two Horned Frogs light up the stage with humor when they perform with Four Day Weekend, an improvisational comedy troupe in downtown Fort Worth.Steve Rupp and Carla Stoltenberg are part of Four Day Weekend's masters class, which makes them eligible to perform on Thursdays, Stoltenberg said.

"The first thought was, 'Wow, this is awesome,'" Rupp, a senior psychology major, said regarding his first performance at Four Day Weekend. "To look out and see a crowd full of people just there to watch you is an awe-inspiring experience. Just wow."

When Danny Owens sits down at his corner of Panther City Coffee Co., the surrounding walls decorated with self-written poems and Bob Dylan lyrics, he's going to work.Donning his black beret, psychedelic print shirt and matching pants, Panther City's resident artist sits under lamplight singing Dylan to himself as he slashes across the board with his brush.

The 59-year-old self-taught artist, a former sales manager for a publishing company in Dallas, quit his job in 1986 to write, but said he soon discovered he could better express himself through painting.

After two weekend games, the best-of-five Purple-White World Series is tied at one game all.Each team had impressive showings in its respective victories, with the Purple-clad Horned Frogs taking game one, 7-2. The White team answered with a 7-0 win Saturday.

Head coach Jim Schlossnagle said he liked the way freshman second baseman Aaron Schultz looked at the plate for the White team through the first two games. Schultz had a hit in each game.

Environmental movement still falling short

There is a growing trend to make the world "greener" with the continual publicity of the global climate change phenomenon.Some of these groups include the U.S. Green Building Council and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards. Both of these organizations have evaluated TCU facilities and, unfortunately, the buildings on campus don't measure up.

The new student center currently under construction fell short of meeting the environmental standards of LEED and is going to be submitted for review by the USGBC.

Pitching, defense give Purple opening win

An eighth -inning miscue on a ball hit to right field allowed five unearned runs to score and led the Purple team to a 7-2 victory in the first game of the Purple-White World Series at Lupton Stadium on Friday. Head coach Jim Schlossnagle, who serves as an observer during the Series, said he thought the defense was solid despite the error.

"I thought what was positive was that, with the exception of the one ball in the outfield, we played really good defense," Schlossnagle said. "We made some really good plays in the outfield."

Study on roles of women good idea

The university is conducting a survey on the perception of women on campus.Bonnie Melhart, associate provost for academic affairs, said the idea for the study came from a group of women faculty members and is supported by the chancellor and the provost.

Looking into gender roles on campus is an excellent idea - especially if the issue was raised by women on campus. Also, with the recent discussions on the issue of women faculty in the sciences taking place in Congress across the country, it's good to see the university taking preventive action on such an important issue.

A Louisiana lawyer witnessed the impact of drunken driving after seeing her Delta Gamma sister killed near the Louisiana State University campus. Jennifer Lindsey said she watched her sorority sister cross a street and get hit and dragged by an oncoming car driven by an intoxicated student. Lindsey said she remains forever affected.

Awareness and prevention of drunken driving remains an important area of concern for Lindsey, the lead vocalist for the Dallas-based band Random Circumstance, and she tries to convey this message through the music her band performs.

The unusual amount of injuries and surprising disappointments of this season has sparked some interesting trades that are making waves in the fantasy world.The faces in new places to watch are Michael Bennett in Tampa Bay, formerly of Kansas City and Chris Chambers in San Diego, formerly of Miami. One would think Chambers' value would skyrocket now that he has a legitimate quarterback and high-powered offense to fit into, but be wary. He won't see near the number of targets he did when he was the only option down in Florida.
