As the first practice of the spring football season came to a close, each player took a knee. They were silent and attentive - a far cry from the roaring encouragement handed out just minutes before, by players such as junior safety Brian Bonner and sophomore center Blake Schlueter. The first day of spring practice, a beautiful day by all accounts, had come to an end, but not before former quarterbacks coach Dick Winder gave the team a proper goodbye. By the end of his talk, Winder, who recently stepped down after five years at TCU, was given a standing ovation by players and staff.

The Lady Frogs basketball team moved into second place in the Mountain West Conference Saturday with a 62-48 victory over the first place Brigham Young Cougars at Daniel Meyer Coliseum.TCU (21-9, 11-5) finished its regular season on a two game winning streak after beating the San Diego State Aztecs on February 28.

Senior guard Ashley Davis said she was pleased with the win in her last career home game with the team.

The Frogs took advantage of timely mistakes to defeat the Vermont Catamounts Saturday afternoon.Vermont (0-2) committed three errors in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead to the Frogs (9-4) 4-1 victory.

Before the eighth inning the Frogs and the Catamounts were tied at one in a pitcher's duel.

The Frogs put the first run on the board in the bottom of the second inning.

The Frogs swept their three-game weekend series against the Vermont Catamounts and have now won four games in a row.The offense came to life Sunday for the Frogs (10-4) as they beat the Catamounts (0-3) 10-2 on Sunday.

Vermont got on the board first scoring both their runs in the top of the third inning.

The Catamounts worked the bases loaded with just one out. Junior second baseman Bryan Rembisz hit a single to left field to score sophomore left fielder Justin Albert and senior center fielder Will Huntington.

What would you do if you could be the chancellor for a day?That was the question for senior advertising/public relations major Ashley Pierret when she switched places with Chancellor Victor Boschini on Thursday.

"It's been my best experience at TCU so far," Pierret said. "The chancellor is a very amazing person, but he's also very busy. It takes a lot of people to run this university, and I have a better appreciation for that now."

Following a hard-luck road tournament in South Carolina, the Horned Frogs' baseball team has returned home for a three-game set with the Vermont Catamounts.TCU will be using ace starter Jake Arrieta (2-1) in Friday night's match up against Vermont's Brandon Miles. Miles will be making his season debut for the Catamounts, while Arrieta will try for his second-straight home win.

The Horned Frogs (7-4) will bring 11 games of experience in the 2007 season while the Catamounts will take the field for the first time in this year's campaign.

An administrator said TCU will recommend to the board of trustees today that Four Sevens Resources Co. be named the university's "natural gas operator." Brian Gutierrez, vice chancellor for finance and administration, said in an e-mail Thursday that the designation would jump-start negotiations with Four Sevens to generate a lease allowing exploration for natural gas on TCU property.
