The recent charity to the people of Haiti after the devastating earthquake was worthy of praise but did not outweigh 200 years of neglect, a speaker for the Ministers Week said.

The Rev. Sharon Watkins kicked off Ministers Week with the annual Wells Sermon at the University Christian Church on Monday night. She focused her sermon on overcoming individual allegiances to care for all humans as children of God.



"We need to see past our false divisions and care about all God's children, before the earthquake hits," Watkins said.

Alumnus donates memorabilia to journalism school

A letter dated Jan. 3, 1966 to Fort Worth Star-Telegram reporter and TCU alumnus Bob Schieffer, who was reporting from Vietnam, informs him about a shipment of letters sent his way to deliver to Fort Worth soldiers serving in the war. The letter, sent by another Star-Telegram employee, also notifies Schieffer about a $10 raise, which adjusted for inflation would amount to about $68 today.

"Spend it wisely," Schieffer was instructed in the letter.

Lady Frogs basketball return to AP ranks with No. 24 spot

After dropping out of the Associated Press Top-25 rankings, the Lady Frogs this week are back at the No. 24 spot.

Last week, the women's basketball team dropped from it highest national ranking of the season, No. 20, following a road loss to the University of New Mexico.



With two dominating home-court wins against Brigham Young University and the Air Force Academy, the Frogs advanced to 17-5 for the season.

Schieffer: Democracy cannot exist without journalists

CBS News' chief Washington correspondent Bob Schieffer, a TCU alumnus, and Susan Zirinsky, executive producer of CBS' "48 Hours," told personal stories about their experiences in journalism. Schieffer talked about his encounters with presidents Gerald Ford and Lyndon Johnson, and Zirinsky spoke of her time working at CBS, which she joined as a part-time production clerk in 1972.

Bob Schieffer and Susan Zirinsky to speak about television industry

Two renowned journalists will speak Monday evening about their experiences in the television industry.

Bob Schieffer, a 1959 university graduate and host of CBS News "Face the Nation," and Susan Zirinsky, executive producer of CBS' "48 Hours," are the featured speakers at the 6 p.m. event, which will take place in the Brown-Lupton University Union auditorium.



The event will include a screening of the movie "Broadcast News," for which Zirinsky was a technical adviser.

Colorado police launch investigation in branding incident

Police in Breckenridge, Colo., said Thursday that the department is investigating a January branding incident involving sophomore pre-business major Amon "Chance" Carter as a criminal assault.

Carter, great-grandson of city icon Amon G. Carter, said last week that he suffered second- and third-degree burns on his buttocks after fellow Kappa Sigma members branded him with a hot coat hanger while he was intoxicated. Carter said the incident took place Jan. 9 during a ski trip in Breckenridge, Colo.

Seller: Instructor book resale legal

If you've noticed any black tape on one of your textbooks, chances are it's the result of a deal between a faculty member at any university nationwide and an independent book buyer.

The results of these deals, publishers said, drive up the cost of textbooks, but they said there is nothing they can do to stop faculty members selling the books.



The black tape covers labels that identify the books as instructor copies, which are sent to professors free of charge, noting that they are not to be resold.

Women’s basketball faces AFA at home

After dropping out of the polls after a devastating road loss against New Mexico, the Lady Frogs gained some momentum by defeating a strong Brigham Young team Wednesday. The Lady Frogs, now 16-5, hope to add another win to their record after a conference matchup at home Saturday.

TCU will face the struggling Air Force Academy Falcons. The Falcons are only 3-18 this season and post a 0-8 conference record. However, TCU head coach Jeff Mittie will not approach this game any differently.
