Men’s basketball victory over Wyoming with 62-59

The TCU men's basketball team advanced to 9-8 overall and 2-1 in the Mountain West Conference after a 62-59 home-win over the Wyoming Cowboys on Tuesday night.

Good defense was crucial to the victory. The Horned Frogs earned 20 points off of turnovers alone.



Sophomore guard Ronnie Moss scored 6 points by the 15:08 mark, and the Frogs kept the lead throughout the first half.



Senior guard Edvinas Ruzgas racked up a number of points for TCU as well. He scored 12 points in the first half alone, and led the Frogs in points scored with 22 overall.

Fiesta Bowl drew high ratings for DFW

While the Fiesta Bowl loss to Boise State was certainly not the best game in the TCU's history, it was one of the most watched.

According to a Fort Worth Star-Telegram article, Fox drew 13.8 million viewers, 27 percent more than the Mountain West rival Utah victory over Alabama in last season's Allstate Sugar Bowl.



Dallas-Fort Worth comprised of 35 share on the night of the game, which means that 35 percent of viewers in the area watching television at the time were tuned in to the game.

TCU: No contact between Patterson and Tennessee officials

Director of Athletics Media Relations Mark Cohen said there has been no contact between Frogs Head Coach Gary Patterson and University of Tennessee officials seeking a new head football coach.

Cohen commented after ESPN Radio in Dallas on the Galloway & Company show speculated this afternoon on unconfirmed reports that University of Tennessee officials were "on the ground" in Fort Worth. Tennessee is searching for a head coach after Lane Kiffin resigned Tuesday to take the open coaching position at USC.

Few things are so difficult that a group of people can prepare for weeks in the national spotlight, do everything in its power to achieve success and still only have a 50-50 chance of victory. College football bowl season is one of those things.

Despite the Fiesta Bowl's disappointing outcome, the university deserves huge credit for creating an incredible bowl experience for its students and fans. The effort the Athletics and Campus Life offices put forth regarding travel and event organization was exponentially better than last year for the Poinsettia Bowl.

Three men arrested during a December drug sweep are no longer enrolled at the university, according to the Office of Communications.

Lisa Albert, director of communications at the university, wrote in an e-mail that she cannot share specific details about why the men - Timothy Hand, Cameron Abelson and David Harrell - are no longer students.



Harrell and Hand wrote in separate e-mails that they chose to leave the university. Abelson's circumstances are unclear.

Students choose lounges over dorms

While the option was open for students to relocate out of converted lounge spaces or tripled rooms in university dormitories this semester, some students like Alison Deathe chose not to leave.

Deathe, a freshman fashion merchandising major, lived in a tripled room in Foster Hall last fall and was contacted during the fall about available vacancies, but declined the option to move.



"I was e-mailed about vacancies, but chose to stay where I am," Deathe said. "Space is an issue, but I love living in a triple and living with my friends."

The men's basketball team will face the Wyoming Cowboys tonight at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum after dropping a game against Utah on Saturday.

"It's important for us to win our home games to have a good season," said head coach Jim Christian. "We just want to keep playing well and get off to a good start in Mountain West Conference play."



The Horned Frogs enter the game with an 8-8 record overall and a 1-1 record in conference play. The team won its first conference game of the season against Air Force 59-50, but fell in its second to Utah 65-45.

Renovations for the new Kroger grocery store on South University Drive will be complete in the early summer, a Kroger spokesman said.

Gary Huddleston, director of consumer affairs for Kroger Food Stores, said the company will take possession of the former Albertsons' building March 1 and will begin renovations immediately. The company is in the process of drawing up blueprints, and the renovations are expected to take three months, he said.
