Campus failures shared on community Web site

Frog failures can now be shared among the Horned Frog community through frogmylife.com, a Web site designed to anonymously relate daily mishaps, the site's creator said.

Brandon Corcoran, a sophomore finance and entrepreneurial management major and creator of frogmylife.com, also manages the site, which launched Oct. 19. He said the site is loosely based on fmylife.com, a blog where people share unfortunate happenings, but is aimed at TCU students. This makes the stories more relevant since many stories involve campus and places nearby, he said.

Interfraternity Council approves additonal rush day

The Interfraternity Council approved a proposal to add an extra day to the formal recruitment process, which will give potential members more time to learn about each fraternity next fall, the IFC president said.

IFC president Evan Berlin said members voted on Oct. 22 to add an extra day. IFC members discussed the addition of the extra day for a few weeks before voting on it, he said. The new day will be a part of the fall 2010 recruitment schedule, Berlin said. The formal recruitment process will start on a Saturday and Tuesday will be bid day, he said.

The Horned Frogs might not need another LaDainian Tomlinson if their tailback by committee system keeps working so well.

The Frogs (8-0, 4-0) racked up 390 yards on the ground en route to a 41-0 victory over the UNLV Rebels (3-6, 1-4).



Senior tailback Joseph Turner, who averaged 6.5 yards per carry in the win, said that sharing the ball with his fellow runners has its benefits when it comes to staying energized.



"I can tell that we stay fresh," Turner said. "I'm just happy to be playing with some talented running backs."

Film, television and digital media students who are fans of watching the characters on "The Office" make fools of themselves on a weekly basis will soon have the chance to pick the brain of an assistant director of the hit show.

Julie Harrison, a sophomore film, television and digital media major, said "The Office" was her favorite TV show. She will get to learn about the behind-the-scenes details of her favorite show from its assistant director, Rusty Mahmood, when he speaks to FTDM students Nov. 2 and 3.

Band to play Halloween themed music at game

The music played during halftime at Saturday's Homecoming football game will reflect the Halloween holiday.

JP Wilson, TCU band drum major and senior music education major, said fans in attendance can expect to hear something different Saturday.



"We're going to play some 'Ghostbusters,' and we're going to play 'Thriller,'" Wilson said.



The performance will feature a Halloween theme and also showcase bits from the band's regular halftime show, he said.

After days of careful carving, students' pumpkin creations were put on display and judged in Market Square Thursday night.

Kelly Raw, marketing manager for dining services, organized the event that took place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.



Raw wrote in an e-mail that the pumpkins were available for students to pick out Oct. 27 and 28 in Market Square.



She wrote that sixty pumpkins were ordered for students to sign out at the register free of charge.

Office of Communications names new director

Lisa Albert said she was never expecting a promotion, but that was exactly what she received when she was recently named director of communications in the university's Office of Communications.

The position was vacated by Tracy Syler-Jones earlier this year after she was named vice chancellor for marketing and communication at the university.



Albert said she had always thought of the possibility of moving toward the position of the director, but she was excited to actually receive the opportunity.

Groups takes donations to raise game attendance

Fans have not filled Amon Carter Stadium to the brim since Sep. 16, 2006 when the Horned Frogs beat Texas Tech 12-3.

On Tuesday, head coach Gary Patterson called for the TCU community to support his team as it worked toward an undefeated season.



"It's not all on the shoulders of the team," Patterson said. "(Fans) need to get themselves out. It needs to be a loud crowd ... There needs to be a home-field advantage."
