Rabbi: God’s existence evident in everyday life

Published Sep 24, 2008

Scientists have never seen an electron, physicists have never laid eyes on a quark, but they know these things are real because they can look in their microscope and see things happening - things that could not happen if they didn't exist, a rabbi told guests at Ed Landreth Auditorium on Tuesday.

This same theory can also be applied to the existence of God, Rabbi Harold Kushner told guests at the 11th annual Gates of Chai Lectureship.

Jab at anthem mars athlete’s reputation

Published Sep 24, 2008

When I thought of Josh Howard, the first thing that used to come to my mind was a rising star with extreme potential to be one of the best basketball players in the NBA. Recently, however, Howard has been rapidly losing the respect I once had for him. Up until a few months ago I would have said that Howard was one of my favorite basketball players in the NBA, but he has shattered that image by pulling the last straw and insulting something so precious to most Americans: the national anthem.

Men’s tennis to face Baylor on Friday

Published Sep 24, 2008

The men's tennis team will debut Friday at the HEB Baylor Intercollegiate Invitational in Waco.

The focus for the team this season is to improve as a program, said head coach Dave Borelli.

"We have the toughest schedule we have had in seven or eight years. It is going to be a real challenge for us," Borelli said. "You can't get better unless you play the best. Beating a great team makes you a better player. Beating a bad team doesn't make you better."

Housing development with ‘TCU’ in name has no relation

Published Sep 24, 2008

Property owners using the university's name to develop a building aimed for student housing could cause some confusion among the neighborhoods surrounding campus, a university official said.

Don Mills, vice chancellor for student affairs, said the university notified the city and neighborhood through an e-mail to let them know that the property owners, TCU Development Partners LLC, is not connected with the university.

"We don't want people to use our name when it causes confusion," Mills said. "And since it's a housing project it could cause some confusion."

Constant texting distracting, deadly

Published Sep 23, 2008

According to Newsmax.com, the country's finest bastion of unbiased journalism next to The Christian Science Monitor, 40 percent of cell phone users used their phone for text messaging by 2007, with the average texter sending 188 messages per month.

I'm surprised it's not more than that, seeing as how most people ages 12 to 25 spend half of their day furiously finger-smashing their cell phone's keypad and not being productive or interesting members of society.

Students should be proud of their efforts to help those affected by Hurricane Ike.

Nursing students volunteered at shelters for evacuees and provided basic first aid care and mental health assessments. The charity wasn't limited by the bounds of the medical profession, though, as volunteers helped clean the playground and even took time out to play with kids.

On campus, the Kappa Sigma fraternity has also lent a helping hand for hurricane relief. The Greeks have since collected more than 2,500 cans, with an ultimate goal of 8,000.
