Team extends win streak to season high six games

The TCU baseball team continues its perfect streak in the month of April, defeating University Nevada, Las Vegas in the first of a three-game series.


A game winning double in the bottom of the ninth and two outs gave the Horned Frogs a 4-3 victory. The win also extends TCU's winning streak to seven games, its longest winning streak of the season.

New scholarship to benefit three rising senior students

A new scholarship will give three rising seniors a chance to cut back on costs before graduation.


Chancellor Victor Boschini and TCU Transitions worked together to create the TCU Mission Statement Scholarships, which will give $2,000 each to three rising seniors, said Chuck Dunning, dean for the class of 2008 and director of TCU transitions.


"It benefits students who have worked hard to embody the TCU culture and we want to give a valuable, tangible award to let those students know how much we appreciate their work," Dunning said.

Student publications select new leaders

The Student Publications Committee selected the new editor-in-chief and advertising manager for the Daily Skiff for the fall 2008 semester and editor-in-chief of Image magazine for the 2008-2009 school year Friday.


Bailey Shiffler was selected to be editor-in-chief of the Skiff and Kerry Crump was selected to be advertising manager.

Spring practice over; Spring Game next up for Horned Frogs

With the end of four weeks of spring practice comes TCU's annual Spring Game on Saturday, and head coach Gary Patterson said the team is ready to hit hard.

"They haven't hit since Tuesday, by Saturday I think you'll see them go after each other," Patterson said.



For the first time since Patterson has been with TCU, the team took all four weeks of spring practice in a row instead of two two-week sessions with a break in between, he said.

Faculty Senate to vote next month on tenure appeal policy

The Tenure, Promotion and Grievance Committee presented the final draft of its new tenure appeal policy to the Faculty Senate at Thursday's meeting and the Faculty Senate will vote in May.

The tentative policy applies to tenure-track faculty who wish to appeal when denied a promotion and/or tenure.



In order to get tenure, a faculty member must be approved by his or her department, then by his or her college and finally by the provost.

Alternative natural gas drilling site being considered

An alternative drilling site is being evaluated for an on-campus natural gas well, a university administrator said.


The university signed a lease in August that proposed a drilling site in the remote parking lot north of Amon Carter Stadium, but an official location for the site of the Chesapeake Energy natural gas well has yet to be determined, said Brian Gutierrez, the vice chancellor for finance and administration.
