It was Family Weekend when Lindsay Moore found out she had it.During a time usually reserved for catching up with parents and siblings and enjoying a football game at Amon Carter Stadium, Moore, a senior graphic design major from El Paso, noticed that a simple bump on her right elbow had turned into an open cut, with a sharp tint of red.

"At first, I didn't really pay attention to it, but then it started to hurt a lot," Moore said. "It was probably the most painful thing I've ever been through."

As the fall season came to a close for the women's tennis team, a pair of freshmen made headlines in singles and doubles competitions in San Diego.Maria Babanova took home top honors in the Flight No. 3 singles bracket, downing a University of California-Irvine player in three sets in the finals of the San Diego State Fall Classic No. 2 on Sunday.

Although Idunn Hertzberg was unable to produce a similar result in her championship match in the Flight No. 1 singles bracket, she was able to win the Flight No. 2 doubles consolation championship with Babanova on Sunday.

The niece of a former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver finished her college basketball career at TCU as the career leader in eight different categories. Sandora Irvin, daughter of Michael Irvin, is the NCAA's all-time leader in blocked shots and was the No. 3 overall selection in the 2005 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury.

After leaving TCU as arguably the greatest women's basketball player in school history, Sandora Irvin has returned to the team.

During their 16-day break, the Frogs hoped to spend their time recovering from injuries and getting their season back on track. And it looks like it's working, as head coach Gary Patterson said he expects a defensive standout to return from medical leave.During Patterson's media luncheon Tuesday, he announced that senior defensive end Tommy Blake had been practicing all week, and he thinks Blake will play against New Mexico on Saturday.

The pulse of the nursing population is fading, and the Harris College of Health and Human Sciences is trying to revive it.The College of Health and Human Sciences is taking a proactive stance to combat the predicted nursing shortages by 2020.

The college has been successful with a retention rate of 85 to 100 percent, said Donna Tilley, associate professor and director of the Harris College of Nursing. But the College of Health and Human Sciences is continuing to raise the bar, and other colleges should take notice.

Highlighted by 2007 Mountain West Conference co-player of the year Adrianne Ross, the women's basketball team will utilize a core group of senior guards to try for an eighth straight appearance in the NCAA tournament.Head coach Jeff Mittie said Ross has always had a great ability to get to rim, no matter whom she is up against.

"When you look up at the end, I think Adrianne Ross is going to be a player that we're going to go to at the end of games," Mittie said. "She's a player that's going to have the ball in her hands."

Granted there are some stupid questions.

There are always students who as they raise their hands the entire class and professor join in a collective sigh.

Coming off of a 16-day hiatus, the football team will try to stop New Mexico's four-game winning streak Saturday in Fort Worth.The Lobos (6-2, 3-1 MWC) are coming off of a 34-31 overtime victory against Air Force, and currently sit second in the Mountain West Conference behind BYU.

The Horned Frogs will try to contain New Mexico running back Rodney Ferguson, who is coming off of a career-high 146-yard effort against Air Force. His 41 carries were the second-most in a game in conference history, and earned him MWC Player of the Week honors.

Facebook utilized by job recruiters

Facebook can be a blessing or a curse when embarking on a job search.Purdue University with the National Association of Colleges and Employers offered a survey to campus recruiters and 64 companies.

When recruiters were asked five questions about whether online resources affected their decisions in hiring, 78 percent said it did have an affect, according to the survey.

"Facebook is the best thing to ever happen to job recruitment," said Bill Moncrief, senior associate dean of the Neeley School of Business.
