TCU special education graduate student Kat Deichler signed a two-year contract last month to teach first grade special needs students at an international school in Qatar.

However, she said if someone had told her a year ago that in September 2011 she would begin teaching full-time in another country, she would not have believed them.

"I was a Texas girl," Deichler said. "I was not going anywhere. I was going to stay here and teach forever."

Paint party: TCU paintball team ranked No.15 in nation

Published Mar 2, 2011

Highly ranked athletic programs have become the norm rather than the exception for TCU, and the club paintball team is no different.

The TCU Paintball team, a university club sport, is currently ranked No. 15 out of 86 teams in the National Collegiate Paintball Association rankings.

Junior team member Amir Tafarroji said good competition was hard to find around Fort Worth. The team will drive more than 100 miles to practice at Weber's Paintball near Temple, he said.

"We think Weber's is one of the best fields in the state," Tafarroji said.

Combine should give Cowboys good look at potential recruits

Published Mar 1, 2011

As the NFL combine wrapped up yesterday, the Dallas Cowboys should have a significantly better outlook on the upcoming draft. More importantly, one TCU player would make a great fit in the Dallas clubhouse.

The Cowboys have the No. 9 pick in the draft and should theoretically pick one of the top 10 players available. Granted, no TCU players will make a top 10 draft pick, but there are a number of needs that Dallas has that can be solved with a wisely selected top 10 pick.

A very likely pick of the Cowboys will be Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara.

The machine is a state-of-the-art recycling kiosk that provides recycling incentives in the form of coupons and gift certificates for local businesses, according to an article from greenbiz.com

Dream Machines should be just the start in university’s recycling effort

Published Mar 1, 2011

With global efforts toward sustainability increasing drastically, the university should do all it can to help promote green efforts on campus.

The Dream Machines would be a convenient way for students to recycle on campus, and providing incentives in the form of gift certificates and coupons makes that opportunity even better.

Furthermore, the machines come at an extremely low cost to the university, leaving administrators little excuse for not allowing the machines to be installed.

Electronic grading services make education a formula

Published Mar 1, 2011

The Educational Testing Service presented evidence on Feb. 19 that found electronic grading services for college placement exams to be just as reliable as human graders, and the reverberations sparked debate in the education world.

Controversy flared between the technological-progressive side of academics and the more classically-oriented camp, according to a Feb. 21 article from Inside Higher Ed. Should computers be responsible for grading students if the reliability is the same and resources saved?
