I remember movies with scores of people driving hover cars, wearing aluminum foil like it's the only material left to make clothing, and using an electronic voice activator for just about everything, from toothpaste to opening their front doors.

This world has been crafted and envisioned for decades by curious minds who wonder what the future might hold. Although we are not all wearing space boots, our technological advancements are much closer to our perception of "the future" than we care to realize.

Students seeking an internship or a part-time job can now search for one in their pajamas through Urban Interns, a nationwide marketplace that connects growing companies with part-time jobs and internships.

Lauren Porat, co-founder of Urban Interns, said the site launched in the Dallas-Fort Worth area at the beginning of January. She said she felt the site would be beneficial in the college setting, in part because students can work from home.

No. 5 Horned Frogs stay undefeated against Fresno State

Junior Lyndsi Hardin earned her first MVP honor of the season as No. 5 TCU moved to 5-0 on the season Sunday afternoon with a 10-9 decision over No. 9 Fresno State at October Hill Farm.

With the win, the Frogs have now won six-straight regular season matches dating back to last spring and haven't lost at home since the 2008-09 season. Overall, TCU rallied on the Western side Sunday to outscore the Bulldogs, 1,433-1,423.

Alabama defeated TCU 4-3 at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. TCU suffered its second loss in a row, dropping the Horned Frogs to 2-2. TCU won the doubles competition 2-1. The Horned Frogs fared poorly in singles play losing four of the six matches.

On the first court senior Emanuel Brighiu and senior Christopher Price, took on Alabama juniors Ricky Doverspike and Vikram . Brighiu and Price trailed early, but rallied to take the 7-5 lead. Reddy made a sensational dive to pull the score to 7-6. Brighiu and Price held of a "Bama rally to win 50-30 and give TCU the victory.

Prospective students face greater competition for scholarships

The increased number of freshman applications to TCU has created greater competition for academic scholarships in the incoming class, a university official said.

Associate Dean of Admission Wes Waggoner said the university had received 17,676 applications as of Feb. 8, about 3,500 more than last year's total. The increased competition for admission also means higher standards for scholarship consideration, he said.

TCU Abroad goes all out for Monday’s fair

Even with temperatures expected to be in the 60s, The Center for International Studies: TCU Abroad has planned to take extra steps to encourage students to come out to Monday's Study Abroad Fair.

Alexis Branaman, the coordinator for study abroad, said they ordered five gallons of hot chocolate to hand out to students at the fair. Marshmallows and whipped cream will be available too she said.

Branaman said she hoped for a good turn out, similar to last fall's.

New shuttle route shows power of communication

The Fort Worth Transportation Authority,, or The T, announced in a press release Thursday that it would offer free shuttle service on Fridays and Saturdays to the West Seventh Street area beginning this weekend. The T's announcement was a welcome and pleasant surprise because of all of the positives involved.

Joan Hunter, The T's spokeswoman, said the service was a good way for students to access the West Seventh area's entertainment opportunities.
