For Nikola Cerina, basketball isn't just a pastime. The 6-foot-9-inch sophomore power-forward for the TCU men's basketball team used his talent to transcend the war and violence that raged around him for most of his young life.

Cerina's hometown, more than 5,800 miles away in Topola Oplenac, Serbia, has experienced one conflict after another since declaring independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.

"Growing up in Serbia, there were a lot of bad things going on," Cerina said. "I've been through two wars so it wasn't fun, but I managed to find some escape in basketball."

After a close first period, the Horned Frogs came out strong in the second to defeat the USC Trojans 81-69 Monday night to strengthen their record to 5-2 for the first time since the 2004-2005 season.

Head coach Jim Christian said points scored at the beginning of the second period, including a three pointer by senior forward Nikola Gacesa, helped the Horned Frogs stay ahead for the rest of the game.

"It's important when you play a team like this when you get a little in the lead to take advantage of it," Christian said.

As college football fans, we want our team to be No. 1. Last Friday, college football witnessed the takedown of a good football team in Boise State.

BSU had a legitimate shot at the national title if a few things bounced their way. Now after Nevada's 34-31 comeback against BSU, it's up to TCU to bring home the famed Coaches' Trophy. But as TCU pursues this dream, they must realize they are not alone. They have picked up a new, unexpected fanbase.

Picture this: you're in a class and you are struggling to understand the material. You've got a big party tonight, and you start to focus less on the professor and more on what you're going to wear. An hour later, you walk out of class and realize you don't have a clue what happened during that time.

According to a study conducted by two Harvard psychologists using the iPhone application, "Track Your Happiness," "a wandering mind is an unhappy mind." But to me there is only one way that mind wandering can cause unhappiness.

The TCU "Frogmobile" was a staple at home football games this season, but its existence represents more than team spirit with its Horned Frog logo. The car represents the potential future of cleaner energy.

After receiving a C- last year from The College Sustainability Report Card, TCU made some eco-friendly changes which resulted in a full letter grade increase granted last month. Among those changes was the addition of the "Frogmobile", Ken Morgan, director of the TCU Energy Institute, said.

Name: Jerry Hughes

Position: Defensive end

Years Played at TCU: 2006-09

Current Team: Indianapolis Colts

Outcome of game: San Diego Chargers 36, Indianapolis Colts 14

Analysis: For the second straight week, Hughes did not make much of an impact, as he was unable to record any tackles. The Colts, however, were attempting to come back during most of the second half and could not afford to rest their starters. Hughes should see more time going forward once Indianapolis' offense gets its swagger back.

‘Deathly Hallows’ a good movie despite plot discrepancies

Published Nov 29, 2010

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" was a subtle letdown. The movie was a disappointment; from the amount of time spent in scenes in the woods or traveling, to the seizure-inducing rapid cutting. Director David Yates tried too hard to make the movie an epic ending of the series. Instead it was merely a mash-up of "The Lord of the Rings," "Twilight" and teen angst to make an all-right movie.
