Tournament's predictability a turnoff

The NCAA Tournament will wrap up when the final horn sounds at the championship game in Detroit on Monday, and I won't be missing it one bit.

The tournament just doesn't seem to keep and maintain my attention - or even attract it at all - like it used to. In fact, I can't remember the last year I was completely immersed in March Madness action.

State law shouldn’t regulate private institutions

Published Apr 1, 2009

The carry-on campus bill that is working its way through the Texas Legislature is a hot-button topic. In fact, the editorial board could not write a Skiff View on whether it should pass because people feel strongly on both sides of the issue. One thing all the editors agree on, however, is that the government should not have the right to interfere with the rights of private institutions to institute policies as they see fit.

U.S. efforts in Afghanistan call for more resources

Published Apr 1, 2009

President Barack Obama announced Friday that he is sending more troops to Afghanistan.

The far left is up in arms (no pun intended) over this "surge," but there is really no need to be shocked; this was something the president promised to do during the campaign.

According to The New York Times, the new strategy adopted by Obama is to send 4,000 more soldiers to train the Afghan security forces in addition to the 17,000 combat troops he ordered at the beginning of his administration. Unfortunately though, there are several holes in the "surge."
