Don’t let difficult times keep you from chasing dreams

Is four years still the standard to graduate? If so, then technically, you can consider me not average, which I guess is always good. I graduate in 15 days; I'll walk across the stage, get my diploma,...

Fans should honor legacy of senior Horned Frogs

Published Dec 5, 2008

Freshmen, I envy you. As a true TCU football fan, I have been extremely proud to watch the Horned Frogs dominate the opposing competition this season. TCU has been the only college football team I have ever supported, and the future is brighter than ever before. While TCU has won at least 10 games in five out of the last seven seasons, don't take this level of excellence for granted. At 10-2, the team was one fourth down stop away from a potential berth in the Sugar Bowl.

TCU football legend Sam Baugh dies

Published Dec 5, 2008

One of the greatest football players ever, Sam Baugh, who led TCU to a national championship and the NFL out of the dark ages, died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 94.

Baugh made his position into a focal part of the offense, escalating the sport into the passing age. He was an All-America at TCU and charter member of the NFL Hall of Fame after a 16-year career with the Washington Redskins, which ended after the 1952 season.

The honors didn't mean all that much to him, though.

"I pretty much listen to opera constantly," the soprano said. "Sometimes I need a break from it, so I'll just listen to whatever's on the radio, but it's pretty much all I listen to."

Fantasy Football: NFL fantasy playoffs are here

Published Dec 5, 2008

The stretch run and fantasy playoffs are upon us, which, coincidently and unfortunately, means this is my last column of the season.

Your roster should be almost completely set at this point. You know who you can count on and who you can't from week to week, but it's the fringe players who will end up making the difference. Watch the injury reports and churn the bottom of your roster looking for matchups.

SAN DIEGO - Where Daryl Washington provided the physical replacement for missing linebacker Robert Henson - making plenty of big plays and big hits - senior safety Stephen Hodge provided the emotional charge that Henson usually supplies.

The two combined meant TCU's defense was tough to handle for Boise State in a 17-16 win for the Horned Frogs on Tuesday night in the Poinsettia Bowl.

Henson, the team's second-leading tackler during the regular season, missed the game because of academics.
