Commentary: Hockey team’s losing record reflects players’ poor attitudes

These Winter Olympics were full of surprises, but at least one thing wasn't a shocker - how easily the men's Olympic hockey team was, well . iced. And you know what? I'm glad. I'm relieved, even. In a Winter Olympics that saw Michelle Kwan tearfully drift to the wayside - and Bode Miller drift pretty much everywhere - it may be safe to say that the squad Don Waddell built is the biggest disappointment so far.

The TCU Justice and Advocacy Network, a group working to create social change on the campus and in the community, organized the workshop called "Thoughts and Tools for Creating Change."

Safety checks lack consistency

Safety checks lack consistency

About two weeks ago, I walked into my dorm room to find three guys walking around the room. Although I was not close friends with any of them, they were all acquaintances, and I knew what was happening. It was one of the random safety checks that happen throughout the school year.I knew that I had nothing to hide, so I wasn't really worried. But by the time it was over, I had emptied a bag full of quarters on my desk, as well as demonstrated that a decorative pipe on a shelf had indeed not been used. As I thought, I didn't have anything to hide, but I was sweating for a minute.

Many people think gay people are sick, disgusting people who commit unspeakable acts. That they're sinners, and they are barred from heaven as long as they continue their lives of sin. Some believe gays don't deserve a fair shot at life. That they don't deserve to get married or raise children. In fact, they believe we should not allow known gays to vote, teach, participate in government or live in our communities.

Women’s Basketball: Frogs take 2nd shot at BYU

Published Feb 24, 2006

The Lady Frogs (15-9) head to Provo, Utah, Saturday for their second game of the season against No. 18 BYU (20-3). TCU lost the teams' earlier matchup 67-64 at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on Jan. 25.The Frogs will have to do a better job this time of containing BYU forward Ambrosia Anderson, who sunk TCU with 24 points. Anderson took full advantage of a Horned Frog squad that has struggled all season to defend against the three; although it has improved since then, TCU's perimeter defense is still allowing opponents to average 37 percent shooting from long range.

Heading into the first home series of the season at 4-3, head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle said the team has learned it can't take anything for granted."We've beat some good teams and we've lost to some just OK teams," he said. "We're not in the position to take anybody lightly."

The Frogs will have to put that attitude to the test as they welcome the Wright State Raiders (1-1) to Lupton Stadium for a three-game series beginning Friday.

Charity merge helps community

Great minds think alike. That's precisely the problem. With more than 5,000 nonprofit agencies in Tarrant County, there is bound to be an overlap in providing services, as reported in the Jan. 20 Skiff article on homelessness in Fort Worth. The Women's Shelter in Arlington and the Women's Haven of Tarrant County, the two largest domestic violence shelters in Tarrant County, have realized the benefits of combining two minds to achieve a shared goal. The two shelters have merged to form SafeHaven Tarrant County.
