Football team needs another Browne

Published Sep 22, 2005

Football used to be so easy. You'd drive the ball inside the other team's territory, and you'd score one way or another. You'd either score a touchdown, or you'd settle for a field goal.

And now, I'd love to simply settle for a field goal.

If you're a junior or senior, you were spoiled from 2001 to 2003. Nick Browne held down the fort connecting on 65 field goals in his three years.

He holds 10 school records, including career field goals made, field goals made in a season and field goals made in a single game.

Underfrog – Ervin Dickerson

Published Sep 22, 2005

When did you start playing football?
Sixth gradeWho is your role model?
Denzel Washington

What's your idea of a perfect day?
When everything goes well for me. I go to class and get an A on a test and then go to practice and catch every ball. Or, if it's a Saturday, I catch every ball and then go out at night and do my thing.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to play college football and be in a fraternity.

Americans love fast food. I know I do. While I do appreciate the work that goes into, and the quality of a "home-cooked" meal, there is just something about being able to get what I want relatively fast.

In this country, there are restaurants everywhere you look. Some of them are chains like McDonald's and Wendy's, while others are little hole-in-the-wall joints run by mom and pop.

In fact, there are so many restaurants that it is easy to get lost in the sea of fried and greasy goodness.

Receiver is just plain 'Coop'

Receiver is just plain ‘Coop’

Published Sep 22, 2005

When receivers coach Jarrett Anderson was asked to describe typical "Coop," he envisioned him "walking into practice with his chest out, with body oil on like he had just been sunbathing somewhere."When the Frogs mention "Coop," they are talking about Ervin Dickerson, a third-year wide receiver from Beeville.

Dickerson's background may be a little different from what most of his teammates have experienced. He was adopted at a young age by a Hispanic family and raised in that environment.

Athletes look past investigation

TCU track and field members said TCU's legacy is still intact despite problems surrounding the program.Former head track and field coach Monte Stratton and his assistant coaches allegedly violated NCAA rules before Stratton was fired last September. The NCAA is conducting an investigation of TCU, but a decision has not been announced. Last year, the program operated under self-imposed sanctions that banned the runners from post-season competition - both individual and team.

Sophomore sprinter Jay Cooper said he came to TCU because of the track tradition.

Tailgate one of many opportunities to get involved in TCU communityWith so many activities, clubs and organizations on campus, students almost have to work to not know what's going on around them.

The college years are an important time in many people's lives, and getting involved and interacting with others at school only serves to enhance one's experience.

The new student tailgate is a prime example of this.

It encourages students to come together and get involved in the TCU community.

Proper grammar opens door to self-expression

Proper grammar opens door to self-expression

I've got a reputation for being a grammar stickler.Frequently, my friends will e-mail or hand-deliver their term papers to me, asking me to edit them. Most of the time, they ask me to pull no punches and to do my "worst."

And I give them that for which they ask. I let the red ink flow from my pen as blood from an open wound. I slash through words and sentences and, sometimes, entire paragraphs. I catch misspellings, parallel structure mistakes, misuses of predicate nominative and anything else that might impede the overall message of the piece.
