I think I have movies all too figured out. Creativity is lacking, and even if there are awesome special effects, insane gun fights, eye-popping plots and naked mud wrestling, the movies have become incredibly predictable.Think about it. You are in a gunfight and run out of ammo, what do you do? Heck, just throw the gun away; another one that is bigger, better and fully automatic with a full clip is bound to come along. Not only that, but that particular magazine is so full that it doesn't run out of ammo.

Editorial board questions law enforcement effectivenessWhen the Skiff staff trickled into the newsroom for work Monday morning, stories about their cars, and other cars on campus, sporting the phrase "I Heart SMU," led the editors to see a need for a story on the event.

A reporter was placed on the story around noon and TCU Police informed our reporter that no such vandalism was reported over the weekend.

Senior Laura Crowe, along with two other TCU students, participated in officer candidate school this summer and graduated second in the nation out of all of the women who participated.Seniors Nathan Cross and Kevin Shipton, along with Crowe, were among 1,000 participants from across the nation in Quantico, Va. this summer for the Marine Corps.

"Early to rise and late to bed" is the best way to explain the daily experience at camp, said Shipton, a sociology major.

Computing anywhere, anytime, any place.Laptop computers have allowed students to take their technology with them from class, back home and to many places in between.

"Over the last few years, we have seen many people switching over to laptops," said CompUSA manager Matt Jackson. "The obvious advantage of owning a laptop is increased mobility,"

This semester, 2,282 students have their wireless cards registered on their laptops to take advantage of TCU's wireless network, said Dave Edmondson, associate provost of information services.

Donovan digging way back into classroom

Nowell Donovan is back in the classroom for the first time since his promotion to provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs."Last year, I had to learn the rhythm of the provost job, and that's why I chose not to teach," Donovan said.

He also said Chancellor Victor Boschini strongly advised him not to teach the first year.

This semester, Donovan is teaching the introductory geology course, Understanding the Earth, and a graduate seminar.

Donovan was a professor in the geology department from 1986 until fall 2004, when he began his new position.

New student organization seeks leaders

Members of Student Government Association said they are trying to get incoming freshmen involved on campus through a new program introduced this semester.The first group of Frog Aides were chosen Friday as a part of an initiative to help cultivate leadership and service, said Mandy Velasquez, co-director of Frog Aides.

"It's a freshman leadership program to not only strengthen leadership skills, but show them the ins and outs of SGA," Velasquez, a senior speech pathology major, said.

Sept. 11 overlooked because of Katrina TCU not planning rememberance

While the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina continues, the fourth anniversary of Sept. 11 lingers in the background, TCU students said."The hurricane is all over the TV, but 9/11 should be remembered," said Beverly Peplinski, a senior education major.

Other students agree.

Senior radio-TV-film major Glenton Richard said, "I've thought about 9/11 a little bit, but when the time comes, I'll think about (it) more."

There are not any plans to commemorate Sept. 11 on campus, according to TCU officials.

Fair to acquaint local churches, students

Fort Worth community churches will be on campus participating in the Annual TCU Church Fair on Monday, according to University Ministries.The fair will be an opportunity for students to meet the staff and members of churches from the Fort Worth Area and will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Center Lounge, said the Rev. Angela Kaufman, minister to the university.

The fair is a gathering of more than 30 congregations, she said, and it is a chance for students to get connected outside of TCU.

Golfers set goals, get focused

The TCU men's golf team is sending five players to the Cleveland State Invitational next week, the first outing of what head coach Bill Montigel said will be a year of improvement.Sophomore Franklin Corpening, senior Drew Laning, freshman Jon McLean, freshman Tom Miles and junior Drew Stoltz earned the right to play at Cleveland State by surviving the team's own qualifying tournament.

Four freshmen additions have already shown their impact, Montigel said.

Frogs ready for Iron Skillet showdown

Coming off a big win over the Oklahoma Sooners, the Horned Frog football team looks to add another victory when it plays long time rival SMU for the Iron Skillet on Saturday.TCU has won the past six games played between the two teams by an average of 27 points. That includes the 44-0 blowout in 2004, the biggest loss for SMU head football coach Phil Bennett last season.

Despite TCU's winning streak, head football coach Gary Patterson said he prepares for this game as hard as he does any other game on the schedule.
