FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) 8212; In the end, the fourth-ranked TCU Horned Frogs did exactly what they were supposed to do against a lower-division FCS team.

A dominating 62-7 victory over Tennessee Tech extended the Horned Frogs' home winning streak to 15 games, yet still gave coach Gary Patterson plenty of teaching points after a penalty-filled game that led to a postgame apology Saturday night.

TCU defeated Tennessee Tech 62-7 Saturday despite the many mistakes the Horned Frogs made on the field, TCU head coach Gary Patterson said.

"We made too many mistakes," Patterson said. "It doesn't matter what the score is."

TCU gave up many key plays due to penalties during the game, losing 75 yards in penalties alone to Tennessee Tech.

Quarterback Andy Dalton said, "It seemed like there were four penalties back to back to back...that just hurt us and we can't have penalties to stop a drive."

The successful relationships between individual students and faculty members are responsible for the university's recent awards and recognitions, Chancellor Victor Boschini told students and faculty at the University Convocation and Founders' Celebration Thursday.

For the first time ever, the university was ranked as a top 20 "Up-and-Coming National University" in a U.S. News & World Report list, he said. In addition, the university has repeatedly been acknowledged as a top 100 University in the magazine's Best Colleges list, moving up 11 slots from last year, he said.

As Greek life picks up at the start of the fall semester, the new director of Fraternity and Sorority Life Shannon Sumerlin wants to turn plans into action.

The university hired Sumerlin in May to supervise the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council, the two governing bodies that oversee fraternities and sororities on campus.

Mike Russel, executive director for Student Affairs Administration, wrote in an e-mail that Sumerlin met all and exceeded most of the qualifications for the position.

Sumerlin said that getting hired at TCU was a good fit for her.

Student sexually assaulted on campus

TCU Police are investigating the sexual assault of a female student Wednesday.

According to an e-mail sent out by the TCU Police Department, a female student was sexually assaulted in a campus residence hall by a known acquaintance.

Sgt. Kelly Ham of the TCU Police Department said he could not provide any details of an ongoing police investigation. At the time of publication a police report on the incident was not available.

The crime alert appeared to have been sent to faculty, staff and students at 10:40 p.m. Thursday.
