The new director for the Black Church Studies program at Brite Divinity School stood out among the other candidates because of her strong academic background, the dean of Brite Divinity School said.

Nancy Ramsay, executive vice president and dean of Brite Divinity School, said that Keri Day, the new director, also showed confidence in the fields of Black Church Studies, literature and theological ethics.

College Board's new option that allows students to send SAT scores to universities by test date has stirred up a lot of discussion among the higher education community. When this option, Score Choice, becomes available to test takers in March, students will have control over which scores, by test date, their prospective universities will be able to see. Icy weather conditions caused 246 school closings in the Dallas/Fort Worth area Wednesday, according to nbcdfw.com.

The university canceled classes for the second day in a row.



As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, the high temperature was 34 F and the low was 19 F, according to the National Weather Service Web site. Temperatures were expected to rise into the upper 30s before dropping into the 20s Wednesday night, creating possible icy conditions for Thursday, according to the Web site.

As of 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, the recorded high temperature was 41 F and the low was 26 F, and the accumulation of ice totaled 0.4 inches, according to Accuweather.com.

Tuesday's weather caused 251 schools in the DFW area to close, including TCU, according to nbcdfw.com.



An ice storm warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.



The Brown-Lupton University Union was open Tuesday, but only the Corner Store and Market Square remained open.

Campus police to update surveillance system

Campus police are working to improve security around campus because of an increase in campus parking lot break-ins, a campus police official said.

Steven McGee, chief of TCU Police, said he attended a technology show put on by The American Society for Information Science & Technology in order to preview the most productive surveillance cameras to place on campus.



McGee said he is looking at a system of surveillance cameras for the Police Department that are more consistent in the way they operate and have updated technology.

Economy prompts development to halt construction

WestBend, a new mixed-use commercial real estate development on University Drive across from University Park Village, halted construction due to the bad economy, the project's developer said.



WestBend is the first large commercial development in Fort Worth to halt construction, according to a Fort Worth Business Press article.
