The campus initiative to go green has expanded to the intramural fields.

A scoreboard, purchased by the University Recreation Center, was powered by a solar panel for the first time Oct. 26, when the TCU Lacrosse team scrimmaged against its alumni.

Students in Keith Whitworth's social justice and environmental sustainability course were charged with putting nine new solar panels to use during the fall semester.

Let college shape you, not define you

When I sat down to write my senior column, I immediately thought I'd be writing a sentimental piece about how much I've learned at TCU and about how much I have changed. I imagined I would look back and laugh at myself as a wide-eyed freshman who sat down in the wrong classroom on the first day of school.

But I did that my sophomore and junior years, too.

I'm still nervous about studying for finals, I still vow after every test that I will never procrastinate again and I still get lost in Sid Richardson.

It would be difficult to top Taylor Swift's first self-titled album, which was released last year, but her second album, "Fearless," released Nov. 11 three times multi platinum, might just do it.

At 18, Swift has already accomplished a lifetime worth of achievements. Her first album was certified three times multi platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, with five top 40 hits. On Nov. 23, Swift was awarded Favorite Female Artist, Country Music at the American Music Awards.

Frogs to face Boise State in Poinsettia Bowl

Published Dec 5, 2008

Gary Patterson's Christmas has come early.

"What (the NCAA) needs to do is put us with somebody ranked," head coach Gary Patterson said after TCU's last game against Air Force Academy. "Put a Boise State with one of our teams in some bowl game if they want a little publicity if Boise doesn't go to a BCS game."

"I think they are definitely a BCS team."

Patterson said he is looking forward to facing the Broncos.

Amid hectic schedule, find room to enjoy college

Published Dec 5, 2008

I never had any intention of graduating early.

In fact, I did everything in my power to make sure it didn't happen.

I came to TCU still on hyperdrive from high school, and I brought an abundance of AP and transfer credits from a community college, and added to that a 12-credit Spanish class and multiple double-dipped core classes. As TCU is on a flat rate, I wasn't about to pay for classes I wasn't taking, so I also crammed my semester with as many as I could without having to pay for more.

Students resort to graduate school in light of weak job market

Published Dec 5, 2008

Amid the economic downturn, some graduating seniors are turning to graduate school in hopes of avoiding the troublesome job market, a university official said.

John Thompson, executive director of career services, said during an economic crisis he sees many students turn to graduate school because they didn't get job offers or weren't satisfied with the jobs they were offered.

"Graduate school is always an option," Thompson said. "But it's a more attractive option when the job situation isn't very good."

Auto industry should show responsibility, accountability before receiving bailout

For probably the first time, and I hope not the last, I agree with Barack Obama about using taxpayer's money.

According to a Nov. 24 Detroit Free Press article, the president-elect said in a press conference the same day that Congress was right in not giving in to the Big 3 automakers in Detroit because they did not have a definite plan for the $25 billion in taxpayer money they were seeking.

Former associate executive editor of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Phil Record still remembers how Sam Baugh tried and failed to teach him how to punt when Record was 7 years old.

That's about the only thing TCU football legend Baugh couldn't do on a football field.

Baugh, who was 94, died Wednesday, but Record and others are remembering the two-time All-American for his life on and off the field.

For some students, graduating with a second degree within a semester after earning the first degree may seem impossible. For Krista Jennings, it is a reality.

Jennings, a senior working on her second degree, graduated in May with a bachelor of fine arts degree in dance and is now graduating again in December with a bachelor of arts degree in writing.

Jennings said dance is her first choice for a career, but she wanted to have another major to give her more opportunities.
