Today is the day for the 214 students who applied for Frog Camp facilitator.

The university’s nationwide search for the next provost ended Wednesday after Nowell Donovan, the only in-house finalist, was named to the position.

Donovan, the geology department chairman, will start June 1. He will succeed current Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs William Koehler, who retires at the end of the year.

Schools plan to hire more faculty soon

Sixteen new faculty positions will be divided among seven schools in part to help improve the student to teacher ratio, university officials said.

William Koehler, provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, worked with the deans of several colleges to decide which schools would get new faculty and how many.

TCU hosts reading event for elementary kids

Thousands of elementary school students from all over north Texas will travel to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum Saturday for the third annual Fall in Love with Reading Festival.Nonprofit organization Score a Goal in the Classroom sponsors the event, which is expected to bring in about 4,000 children ages 4 to 11, said Ernie Horn, executive director of Score a Goal in the Classroom.

So much for free comment or criticism. Obviously, that sort of freedom might be dangerous to Brite Divinity School.

An e-mail sent by a Brite administrator threatening to take disciplinary action against students who comment on possible allegations against faculty members squelches academic expression and free speech rights.
