The TCU baseball team was blanked Tuesday afternoon by the Texas-Arlington Mavericks 11-0 at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington. The lose was TCU’s fourth in a row.

The Frogs and the Mavericks were locked in a pitcher's dual for much of the game. Clint Mokry retired the first two batters he face, but the Mavericks strung together three straight hits and scored the games first run. Scott Williams drove a ball down the right field line, plating Darrell Preston. 

UTA pitcher Michael Gardner held the Frogs in check for much of the game, as he allowed only one hit through the first five innings, a double in the first inning off the bat of first baseman Chad Huffman. After that hit, Gardner retired the next 14 batters in a row, before Ramon Moses broke the streak with a base hit to center in the sixth. 

The Mavericks picked up two more runs in the fourth. After getting Kasey Baker to strike out, Ryan Nelson singled up the middle, bringing up Paul Bruder. Bruder fouled off six pitches from Mokry before turning on an 0-2 pitch and driving it out of the park, giving the Mavs a 3-0 lead after four innings. 

The Frogs mounted a rally in the sixth inning. Ramon Moses hit a one-out single to center, but was erased by a fielder's choice off the bat of German Duran. Shelby Ford walked, but neither runner made it home. 

A bright note for the Frogs was a strong relief performance from freshman Omar Arif, who retired three of the four batters he faced, picking his first collegiate strikeout. In his first start of the season, Mokry pitched five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking none. He stands at 0-2 on the season. 

The Frogs, now 1-4 on the season, are off on Wednesday before returning to the diamond on Thursday. The Frogs will take part of the Southwest Diamond Classic hosted by Dallas Baptist. The Frogs are scheduled to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys at Noon at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth.
