The University of Texas Longhorns beat the TCU men’s tennis team 4-3 in a tiebreaker singles match Saturday afternoon.

Following the setback, the Horned Frogs, ranked No. 35 nationally, dropped to 16-7 on the year and 1-2 in Big 12 Conference play. No. 23 Texas improved to 14-6 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12.

“it’s a heartbreaker when you lose to an in-state rival at home in front of a great crowd,” head coach David Roditi said. “What went wrong for us was missing too many key shots.”

TCU took an early 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point. TCU’s first doubles win came from court No. 3 where duo Arnau Dachs and Orlando Superlano defeated David Holiner and Soren Hess-Oleson 8-4.

The doubles point was clinched on the No. 1 doubles court, where the team pulled off an 8-6 success over Ben Chen and Daniel Whitehead.

The third doubles match between TCU tandem Max Stevens and JT Sundling and UT’s Chris Camillone and Sudanwa Sitaram went unfinished after the Horned Frogs claimed the doubles point.

Adding to the Horned Frogs' advantage, Facundo Lagones took a quick win at the No. 4 singles court over No. 96 Sitaram. Next to follow in Lagones' example was Sundling at No. 5 over Nuck Naumann.

UT quickly responded with three-set wins at No. 2 and 6 by Lloyd Glasspool over Dachs, and Holiner over Rodolfo Bustamante.

The match win came down to a back-and-fourth tiebreaking match at No. 3 singles between Superlano and 99th-ranked Whitehead. In the tiebreaker Superlano took an early 4-0 lead with multiple match-point opportunities that Whitehead returned, claiming an 11-9 win and the overall victory.

TCU will continue Big 12 Conference play and end its home schedule next Friday when it hosts Texas Tech on Senior day.
