TCU junior Nick Chappell advanced to the second round while junior Arnau Dachs failed to advance past the opening round of the USTA Challenger of Dallas, which will run Feb. 1-8.

Chappell faced Dallas native and Harvard graduate Sasha Ermakov in the first round, powering through a tough match to post a 7-6, 7-6 victory.

In the second round of qualifying competition, Chappell faced Evan King, a University of Michigan alumnus and 2013 Big Ten Athlete of the Year. King was stiff competition for Chappell, who ultimately fell 6-1, 6-4.

Dachs drew the No. 3 seed, UCLA product Nick Meister, in the qualifying round of the tournament, and was defeated 6-2, 6-3.

The Challenger of Dallas is the biggest professional men’s tennis event in North Texas, drawing talent from across the world.

Next up, TCU men’s tennis hits the road to take on the University of North Carolina on Feb. 9 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
