COVID-19 impacted Sharpe's first year, but he didn't let that hold him back from achieving so much as a Horned Frog.

Horned Frogs drop UT-Arlington 11-4

TCU men’s tennis team (2-2, 0-0 Big 12) defeated UT-Arlington (2-4, 0-1 Sunbelt) 11-4 Sunday in Arlington. 

The Frogs almost swept the Mavericks in singles play.

TCU had a dominating performance from junior Nick Chappell who defeated UTA’s Marek Pesicka, 6-1, 6-1. The trend would continue when junior Facundo Lugones defeated UTA’s Daniel Armengol, 6-1 6-3. 

The only singles loss came when UTA’s Francesco Migliano beat TCU freshman Hudson Blake, 6-0, 7-5.

Doubles competition was a different story as the Mavericks took three out of five matches against the Frogs. UTA’s Javier Perez and Carlos Arbiza defeated Chappell and junior Will Stein 8-4 in their doubles match. 

TCU rebounded with junior Arnau Dachs and freshman Trey Daniel squeezing past Pesicka and Sebastian Erimicioiu of UTA, 8-7(4). Lugones and seniorRodolfo Bustamante fell to UTA’s Austin Robles and Armengol, 8-5. UTA ultimately clinched the doubles point. 

With the win, TCU evens their record to 2-2 overall.

Next TCU will host the TCU Spring Invitational with USC Upstate, San Francisco and Lamar University. 

The first event begins on Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. against USC Upstate.
