The No. 43 Horned Frog men’s tennis team (8-5) took the doubles point and never looked back against Middle Tennessee State (4-10) with strong singles play.

Junior Facundo Lugones and Hudson Blake struck first and get an 8-1 win on court three of doubles play early in the match. 

TCU’s strength has been doubles play this season, led by the No. 13-ranked duo of juniors Nick Chappall and Will Stein. The pair closed the door on doubles competition 8-7, earning the doubles point for the match and giving TCU a 1-0 edge heading into singles competition.

Singles play has seemingly been the achilles heel of the Frogs’ losses, however, that was not the case on Saturday. Lugones built upon the doubles point with a strong finish against MTSU’s David Fox, 6-4, 6-1 to earn the first singles point of the afternoon.

Freshman Trey Daniel took a set to get going but had a potent second set against MTSU’s Aaron Jumonvillem winning, 7-6(5), 6-2 to give TCU a 3-0 lead.

The Frogs had a one-point lead and had to rely upon Spaniard Arnau Dachs. The junior continued his strong play this season with a three set battle to clinch the victory for TCU against MTSU’s Victor Cornea, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6.

The Blue Raiders showed resilience by taking down Chappell early in the match. They then earned two more wins throughout singles play before Dachs clinched the win for TCU. 

The Horned Frogs will stay at home for their next match against Columbia on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. from the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
