TCU sweeps TAMU-Corpus Christi 6-0

The TCU men’s tennis team swept Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 6-0 Wednesday night in the indoor facility at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

Due to the inclement weather, the action was moved inside, which provided a more intimate setting for several dramatic matches between the Frogs (9-7) and Islanders (12-8, 1-0 Southland Conference).

No doubles matches were played, so the night featured only singles action.

After jumping out to a 3-0 lead early, TCU looked like they were in the driver’s seat for a strong win against the Islanders.

Junior Facundo Lugones‘ match against Guillaume Rauseo featured plenty of drama. Lugones jumped to a quick match lead cruising to a 6-2 win in set one before dropping the second set 5-0.

Lugones kept fighting though and came back to win 7-6 for a final score of 6-2, 7-6(5).

In the next match junior Nick Chappell had a frustrating first set, falling to the Islander’s No.1 singles player Peter Nagy 5-7. Chappell was able to keep his composure and win the second set 6-4 to force a third.

Another close bout followed, but Chappell was able to stay strong to win 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.

The drama didn’t stop there. Freshman Andres Alfonzo also had to play three furious sets to seal the sweep for the Frogs, 6-4, 5-7, 10-5, for a final score of 6-0.

Catch the Horned Frogs in action next Friday night at home against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. TCU begins play at 6:30 p.m.
