The TCU Horned Frog men’s tennis team returned to its winning formula of doubles match success Tuesday evening, beating the SMU Mustangs (9-9) 4-2.
The Frogs (10-9, 0-2 Big 12) struck first with Hudson Blake and Facundo Lugones ekeing out a tight victory against SMU’s Arturs Kazijevs and Tony Russell, 8-7.
No. 16 Nick Chappell and Will Stein were able to back up the first match performance by striking down the Mustang duo of Mischa Nowicki and Arkidjas Slobodkins, 8-7 as well.
TCU then went on to win the first three matches in singles play, giving them an early 4-0 lead.
TCU freshman Trey Daniel was the first victor against the Mustangs in solo action, taking down Arkidjas Slobodkins with a 6-1, 6-3, score. Senior Rodolfo Bustamante continued the winning trend defeating Julio Olaya, 6-3, 6-1, for a TCU 3-0 lead.
Junior Arnau Dachs was able to assure a TCU victory to bring the Frogs even on the season with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over SMU’s Mischa Nowicki. With the match out of reach, the Mustangs were able to earn two more match points for a final score of 4-2.
Up next, the Horned Frogs head down to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns. The match begins Saturday at 11:30 am.
