The TCU volleyball team handily defeated the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff today in three sets (25-7, 25-12, 25-14) to increase their record to 9-4 (6-1 at home).
Senior Mattie Burleson started the game with a big block in the first set, and the Frogs’ front line did not look back for the rest of the match.
The dominant front line was aided by sophomore Ashley Smith and junior Blaire Pickens. Pickens led the team with seven kills.
TCU had many dominating rallies and runs throughout the match, including a crucial 9-0 run to close out the second set.
A key player in this run was sophomore Shane Peters, who seemed to be all over the court as she led the team with ten digs.
The third set was dominated by sophomore Natalie Gower, whose 6’4″ frame proved to be too much for UAPB to handle. She had two early kills, and her presence seemed to disrupt the UAPB kill attempts for the entire set.
As a team, TCU had eight and a half blocks. Alexia Heist and Trisha Langley led the team in assists with 21 and 15, respectively.
The match against UAPB (1-11) pushed TCU’s record to 3-0 in the TCU Molten Invitational. They finish the invitational tonight at 7 p.m. against High Point University.
