AMES, IA – A final challenge was not enough for the Frogs (14-5, 4-3 Big 12 Conference) to take the Iowa State Cyclones (11-6, 4-2) on Saturday at Hilton Coliseum.

TCU kept up with Iowa State in the first set until the Cyclones went on a 5-point run. The Cyclones eventually dominated the first set, finishing 25-16.

Outside hitter Ashley Smith led the Frogs in the first set with four kills, but three different Cyclones totaled four kills each. Smith made 12 kills in the match.

Smith led TCU in kills, attacks and digs, while middle blocker Regan McGuire and setter Alexia Heist set the pace with blocks and assists, respectively.

The Frogs started the second set strong, up by as many as six points on Iowa State. The Cyclones came back with a 10-2 run to take the second set 24-22.

Iowa State led in kills in three of four sets, nearly doubling TCU’s total in the second set.

The third set told a different story: The Frogs held a consistent lead throughout and finished 25-17 with only one lead change.

Iowa State head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch challenged two calls in the match, but both remained in TCU’s favor.

The last set proved the closest of the four with a final score of 25-22. TCU head coach Jill Kramer challenged the match point, which Iowa State had won. The challenge reversed the call, but the Frogs proceeded to lose the next point and fall 3-1 in the match.

TCU will take on the Baylor Bears next at home on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
