It appeared that TCU’s volleyball team was cruising to an easy victory Saturday night after winning the first two sets against the Arkansas State Red Wolves. The visitors from Jonesboro, however, had a different idea.

The Red Wolves won the third and fourth set before TCU staged a fifth-set comeback to remain undefeated after two games.

Sarita Mikals led the Frogs offensively with 16 kills and just three errors on 42 swings for a total hitting percentage of .310.  Defensively, Mikals also led the team with a total of 9 blocks.  

Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer said the team was focused.

“I thought we were really sharp on both sides of the ball through the first two sets.” Kramer said. “I don’t think we really played like ourselves the third and fourth sets.  We weren’t as clean and we weren’t as sharp but then when we hit adversity in the fifth set and when we were down I thought we really came together.  I am really proud of our team for fighting so hard.”

Mikals said that once you win the first two sets, there’s like a fire burning. And if you lose the next two, it’s “like we should have won this game already.”

“Coming off the bench they tell us to lock in and they tell us the things we need to execute,” Mikals said. “Once we do, which we did, we win the fifth set.”
