TCU volleyball opened up Big 12 conference play with a 3-1 victory against Texas Tech on Wednesday night.
Getting off to a quick start, the Horned Frogs took the first set. But, they struggled against Tech as the Red Raiders fought back and evened the match in the second set.
The Frogs rallied during the third and fourth set, coming back and defeating the Red Raiders 3-1. The Frogs are now 8-3 on the season overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Jillian Bergeson and Sarita Mikals led the Frogs offensively each recording a double-double. Mikals finished the match with 16 kills; Bergeson had 12.
This is the 23rd and 27th time that Bergeson and Mikals have recorded a double-double respectively.
The Big 12 is a tough league and any win is an exciting win, Director of Volleyball Jill Krammer said.
“I really like the way our team came in,” Kramer said. “We played great defense tonight and our pins had really good numbers. We had a little dip in the second set where we made quite a few errors and didn’t side out very well, but it was nice to see them bounce back.”
The Horned Frogs will continue Big 12 play when they travel to Ames, Iowa to take on the Iowa State Cyclones on Sunday. First serve is set for 4 p.m. The game will also be on ESPNU.
