The No. 23 men’s tennis team (3-2) was back in action on Tuesday. The Frogs knocked off Midwestern State 6-1.
TCU swept the three doubles matches, taking a 1-0 lead over the Mustangs. Guillermo Nunez and Alex Rybakov won the No. 1 doubles match easily, 6-2. Cameron Norrie and Hudson Black took the No. 2 doubles match 6-2 as well. Rounding out doubles play, Jerry Lopez and Gianni Mancini topped their opponents 7-6 (7-4) in a tiebreaker.
The Frogs went on to sweep all five singles points, surrendering their only point of the day in a forfeit of the No. 6 singles match. Rybakov (6-4, 6-2), No. 101 Lopez (6-4, 6-2), No. 55 Nunez (6-0, 6-2), Mancini (3-6, 6-4, 10-8) and Black (7-5, 6-1) were all victors for the Frogs.
Coming off an upset loss against Utah State on Jan. 29, Head Coach David Roditi said, “It was good to get back on the court after a disappointing outing the last time we were out.”
Part of the Horned Frogs struggles in the early part of the season has been injuries, so Roditi was happy to see the team back on track, “It was good to see Cameron (Norrie) back playing and it was good to see Guillermo (Nuñez) healthy and if we can continue to put our best lineup out there, then we will be a tough team to beat.”
The team will be back on the court Friday in Hanover, New Hampshire against Dartmouth. That match will be followed by another Ivy League opponent on Sunday, as the Frogs face off with Columbia.
