The sixteenth-ranked Horned Frogs extended their winning streak to eight after a 4-0 win over No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. on Sunday.
“The boys played very well and it was a hard fought match,” TCU head coach David Roditi said.” Cameron Norrie and Trevor Johnson did a great job in their doubles with all aspects of the doubles game, and Guillermo Nuñez and Alex Rybakov continue to come through with key wins for the team.”
TCU, who improved to 13-4 overall and 2-0 in theBig 12, won the doubles point for the sixth straight match with No. 21 Alex Rybakov and Guillermo Nuñez notched fifth straight win and fourth over a ranked opponent after the defeat the 32nd-ranked Sooner duo of Alex Ghilea and Florin Bragusi, 6-2. Cameron Norrie and Trevor Johnson also waltzed to their second consecutive win, 6-4, to wrap up the doubles point and early lead.
The Horned Frogs also started strong in singles, winning the opening sets in four different matches.. Third-ranked Norrie continued his roll with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 28 Spencer Papa.
“We did get off to a great start in all the first sets in singles,” Roditi said.
Reese Stalder dominated his singles matchup to gift TCU a 3-0 lead with a straight-set win. No. 78 Nuñez clinched the match and sweep with his fourth win over a ranked opponent as he triumphed over No. 97 Bragusi, 6-2, 7-5.
“We haven’t beaten Oklahoma in Norman in a while so this was a nice win for our program,” Roditi said. “To start the conference 2-0 on the road at both the Oklahoma schools is something to feel great about and now we get to build off of it.”
TCU will have an off-week with Head Coach David Roditi and Cameron Norrie representing their respective countries in Davis Cup. The team will then wrap-up nonconference action by hostingUSF on Monday, April 10 at Noon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
“We have a week off until we play our last nonconference match against a well-coached USF team at home next Monday at noon,” Roditi said. “Cameron is on his way to France for Davis Cup, and I am on my way to Mexico for the same as well.”
