Despite taking the first set in the match, the Frogs were unable to counter a strong attack from the West Virginia Mountaineers in their first conference match of the season, as they took the final three sets for a 3-1 victory (21-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-19) Wednesday night in Morgantown, W. Va.

The Frogs played strong in the opening set, hitting .433 with 14 kills, four blocks and only one error, but struggled to generate offense the rest of the match. In the final three sets, the Horned Frogs were held to a .169 hitting clip.

“This match came down to consistency and he had some really bright moments and played some great volleyball and times and just were not consistent enough with it,” head coach Jill Kramer said following the match. “West Virginia was the most consistent team tonight. They got the win because of it, that is for sure.”

Junior outside hitter Ashleigh Martin led the Frogs in kills for the seventh game this season with 12, and freshman outside hitter Allye Beth Deaton also tallied 12 kills to lead the team for the second match this season. Junior middle blocker Anna Walsh earned 10 kills and led the Frogs with a season-high eight blocks.

Freshman libero Dani Dennison led the team with 14 digs for the 11th time this season out of the 12 matches played, totaling double-digit digs for the 11th time this season.  Senior setter Lamprini Konstantinidou led the team with 27 assists on the match and tied her career-high in blocks with 5.0 in the match.

TCU led the blocking statistic with 9.0 in the match over West Virginia’s 7.5

With the loss, the Frogs drop to 8-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference action. The match marks the Mountaineers’ fourth win in the all-time series between the two schools, but the Frogs still lead the series 8-4. The Frogs are 3-2 on the season in matches decided in four sets.

TCU will return to the friendly confines of The Rickel inside the University Recreation Center and will open Big 12 play at home against Baylor Saturday, Sept. 23 at 2:00 p.m.
