The No. 14 TCU beach volleyball team suffered two losses to ranked opponents Saturday, the first day of the Fight in the Fort at the TCU Beach Courts.
“It was a tough day,” TCU beach volleyball coach Hector Gutierrez said. “We couldn’t figure out how to win. I think the girls competed much better in the second match of the day. This morning was slow, and we paid the price.”
The Horned Frogs lost to No. 8 Cal Poly Mustangs 4-1 and No. 18 Tulane Green Wave in a nail-biter, 3-2.
“Hopefully we learned a lesson from today,” Gutierrez said. “We learned that we need to go out on the court with the mentality of being competitive from the first point. Everyone is getting better and everyone competed really well.”
In the matchup against the Green Wave, Jillian Bergeson and Jaelyn Greene defeated Tarin Mergener and Ashley Delgado (21-14, 21-13) and Molly Scheel and Hannah Rogers were victorious over Lan Nguyen and Rio Frohoff (21-12, 21-13).
Against the Mustangs, Jensyn Bledsoe and Avery Arellano defeated Rae Griesen and Hannah Hubbard (22-10, 10-21, 15-13), the only win for the Horned Frogs in the matchup.
TCU will finish the tournament Sunday at noon against the Arizona State Sun Devils. They will honor seniors Bergeson, Cassie House, Brooke Sassin and Kristy Wieser before the match in the final home meet of the 2018 season.
